CDXC Sponsors Swains Island Team

The Swains Island DXpedition team, lead by Joe Pater, W8GEX, and Craig Thompson, K9CT, would like to thank the Chiltern DX Club for their generous donation. This money will help defray the costs of this trip which is very expensive as the island is privately owned. We certainly appreciate your Club's assistance, and please be assured that we will spend your money wisely.

Your Club's logo is featured as a donor on our website at www.nh8s.org.

We are excited about this trip, and team members look forward to working Chiltern DX Club's members on as many bands as possible from Swains Island.

Please extend our heartfelt thanks for the donation to all members of the Chiltern DX Club. We appreciate your support.

Sincerely,
Margarett

Triathlon DX Contest announcement

It all started in August of 2011. That was about when it occurred to Mike, SV5BYR that a big Greek Contest was missing from international Ham Radio Contest Calendar. By the end of September this idea became mature and so the "Triathlon" was born! A triathlon is a multi- sport event involving the completion of three continuous and sequential endurance events. And as you have already guessed, it is a Greek word. We had to change a bit the name to Triathlon Dx Contest to match our activity. Actually, trying here to simulate the original Triathlon athletic event, we involved three major ham radio modes, SSB, CW, RTTY. It will be a 24 hour non-stop event divided in three sections, each one devoted to a different mode. There are some tentative rules of the contest that you can take a look. It will take place every Saturday, the 1st full weekend of February, debuting on 02-02-2013.

After all, what makes this particular contest unique is the special gift for the winner! (take a look to the prize page)

In this point we have to mention all the Greek amateurs who are working to make this event alive: SV1DPI, SV1NK, SV2AGW, SV2DCD, SV5BYR, SV7JAR, SV8CS, SV8RX, SV9GPV, SV9DJO…
There is still a lot of work to be done and more details to be announced. Stay tuned!

MORE here: http://triathlon-dx-contest.blogspot.com

3DA0PW

Phil, G3SWH and John, G3OLU / EA5ARC will be active as 3DA0PW from the Hawane Resort in western Swaziland between 21st and 29th February 2012.

The Hawane Resort has a well equipped station with Elecraft K3 transceivers, ICOM IC2KL amplifiers, an A4S at 24m and an A3WS at 20m, a wire 4 square for 40m and a vertical for 80m complete with 30 x 20m long radials courtesy of Daniel, ZS6JR and his company CQ-DX African Safaris.

Activity will be on CW only on all bands 80-10 meters. There will be no 160, 60, 6 metres or EME operation.

Our preferred frequencies will be 3.505, 7.005, 10.105, 14.025, 18.083, 21.025, 24.895 and 28.035 MHz, all +/- QRM. We will ALWAYS work split, listening up about 1-3 KHz

Propagation permitting, we plan to have two stations on the air for as many hours every day as is possible. Our main objective is to work as many European, North American and ROTW stations on as many different bands as possible and plan to make at least 15,000 QSOs.

QSL via G3SWH, either via the OQRS facility on this web site (preferred), direct with SAE and adequate return postage, or via the bureau.

Subject to a good Internet connection, there will be an on-line log on this web page and Clublog as well as daily uploads to LoTW.

4W6A TIMOR-LESTE (EAST TIMOR) DXPEDITION SEPTEMBER 16 – 26, 2011

PRESS RELEASE NUMBER 5 – August 22, 2011 www.4W6A

The 4W6A DXpedition is now less than one month away. Low-band operators will be pleased to hear that the team now has a Titanex V160E 87ft / 26.5m-high vertical antenna for use on 160m at 4W6A. The antenna was shipped from the manufacturers in Germany and has arrived in Darwin, Australia, from where it will be trans-shipped to Dili, Timor-Leste, later this month.

The team had previously planned to use an 18m Spiderbeam pole as the support for a 160m inverted-L. With the arrival of the Titanex vertical, the 18m Spiderbeam pole will now be used for a full-size 80m quarter-wave folded monopole vertical instead.

Other antennas include monoband quarter-wave verticals for 40, 30 and 17m kindly sponsored by Tony Burt, VK3TZ, of Rippletech Electronics in Australia, a 2-element phased array for 40m, an Australian-made Com-an-tena vertical for 10, 15 and 20m, a Butternut HF6V, a 15m vertical dipole, and a G3TXQ Hexbeam made by team member Ant David, MW0JZE. All the antennas will be located on the beach within a few metres of the ocean.

Thanks to the generous sponsorship received from many DX foundations, clubs and individual DXers, it has become possible to ship much of the heavier equipment to Dili, Timor-Leste, in advance of the expedition.
The team is very grateful to all DX groups, companies and individuals that have sponsored the expedition. All are listed with thanks on the 4W6A website at www.4w6a.com/sponsors

4W6A will be QRV from Atauro Island (IOTA OC-232), Timor-Leste (East Timor), from 16 to 26 September 2011. Activity will be on all bands 10 to 160 metres, using CW, SSB and RTTY with up to four stations simultaneously. The QSL manager is M0URX, direct (SAE plus 1 IRC / $2), via the bureau, or LoTW. The entire log will be uploaded to LoTW as quickly as possible after the end of the operation or, if possible, also during the DXpedition. Direct or bureau QSLs may also be requested using the M0URX Online QSL Request Service (OQRS) at http://m0urx.com/oqrs (there is also a link from the 4W6A website at www.4w6a.com/qsl-information).

Bulletin No.3

Just a couple of months to go now until our T32C expedition to Christmas Island. Our container of equipment has reached Fiji and is due to ship soon to T32, to await our arrival.

TEAM
The team is now pretty much complete, with no less than 41 operators, some of whom will be there for the whole period, others will be there for the first or second half. At any one time there will be around 30 operators on the island, permitting us to operate round the clock on all bands with, propagation and other factors permitting, two stations QRV on each of 80 through 10. The team consists of Neville G3NUG (Team Leader), Chris G3SVL (Co-Leader), John G3WGV (Co-Leader), Michael DG1CMZ, Franz DK1II, Falk DK7YY, Paul EI5DI, Dave EI9FBB, Gerard F2JD, Ian F5VKT/G3YBY, Michel FM5CD, Vincent G0LMX, Tony G0OPB, Nobby G0VJG, Richard G3RWL, Fred G3SVK, Laurie G3UML, David G3UNA, Gordon G3USR, Dave G3WGN, Mike G3WPH, Don G3XTT, Mark G4AXX, John G4DRS, Nick G4FAL, Mike G4IUF, Tony G4LDL, Justin G4TSH, Michael G7VJR, Clive GM3POI, Bob GU4YOX, Kazu JA1RJU, Dave K4SV, Paul KG4UVU, Bob MD0CCE, Arnie N6HC, Bob N6OX, Frank ON7RU, Ronald PA3EWP, Maury W3EF and Paul WF5T.

SPONSORS
We are very pleased to welcome Redweb Technologies as a new Corporate Sponsor. They specialise in tracking security solutions and have loaned us a container tracker. We are also delighted once again to have been granted a prestigious ARRL Colvin Award. In addition we thank CDXC - The UK DX Foundation, GDXF -German DX Foundation and the RSGB DXpedition Fund for offering support. Many thanks too to the many corporate, DX and local clubs and individuals who have come forward to support our expedition. They are too numerous to mention here, but are listed in full on our website. Details of how to donate also appear on our website. PayPal donations may be made directly via the site. All donations will be acknowledged.

DX CODE OF CONDUCT AND HOW TO WORK US
FSDXA supports the DX Code of Conduct (www.dx-code.org) and is committed to ensuring that all T32C team members operate to the highest standards. We have also, in conjunction with Wayne Mills N7NG and Steve Telenius-Lowe 9M6DXX, produced a document “How to Work Us” which can be downloaded from our website.

INTERACTING ONLINE
Internet access to and from Christmas Island is limited so we will not, for example, be watching the DX Cluster!
G3GIQ Silent Key

Henry Lewis, G3GIQ, became a Silent Key late on 5th July. He had been unwell for sometime but had recently moved from his long-time home in Ealing to the southwest country. Henry played a very significant part in the founding of CDXC and was one of the top UK DXers. Henry was a true gentleman in very sense, the sort of person it is difficult to come by nowadays.

RIP Henry and thanks a million for many years of friendship and help.
G4MFX heads to Greenland

I shall be going to Greenland next week. Details on QRZ.COM
This is a working trip but I shall be taking a small rig with me to see what I can do. I am scheduled to visit Sisimiut and Ilulissat (mainland) and I was supposted to be on Aasiaat Island for a couple of days around mid April but client has just informed me I am not required...shame cos I don't have NA-134 either and 100 QSOs would have given me another island (now 56 confirmed).

If you hear me please do call because this is my first DX attempt. I was on Fogo island last year and it never occured to me to make an workspedition out of it. I would love to take a bigger rig but I already travel with around 40kg of tools and test equipment baggage (which client pays for) so I have to keep the weight down.

Good DX. Graham.G4MFX
